3 3/8” Ultra Gauge Instructions
Warning: Before doing any work on any kind of vehicle, disconnect the negative(-) battery cable from the battery. Failure to do so may result in burns, electrical shock, or other personal injuries.
Recommended installation technique:

Gauge Wire Connections
Red wire: Ignition Wire, hookup to a switched +12 volt ignition source. Example: Accessory fuse in fuse box.
Black Wire: Ground wire, mate all black wires from the gauge, sender, switch and hook to a good ground. Example: (-) battery terminal.
Purple Wire: dimmer wire, hookup to a switched light source. Example: Any switcher light bulb.
White Wire: Tachometer signal wire, connect to the negative terminal on coil or to tach signal terminal on distributor.
Note: All wires should be routed away from the ignition system, spark plug wires or any type of electrical noise imposing wires. Any wire brought through the firewall should be secured through a rubber grommet.
Gauge Calibration Routines
Adjust engine cylinders:
Note: The tachometer will adjust to 2, 4, 6, 0r 8 cylinder engines.
Adjust shift indicator:
Tachometer:
The tachometer will operate up to 9990 RPM.
High RPM Recall:
Push the button. Hi will flash on the display followed by the current hi RPM. The reading is displayed to the 10 RPM.
Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting related to all gauges:
Gauge does not light:
1. Check to make sure of a good ground.
2. Check the fuse, if used
3. Make sure +12 volts is supplied to the red wire.
4. Test gauge by hooking up directly across battery. Red wire connects to the + terminal and the black wire connects to the - terminal. The gauge will light up and display, scroll, or flash something, if functioning properly.
Fuse always blows:
1. Check the amperage rating on the fuse. It should be at least 1 amp.
2. Check all wires external to the gauge. Make sure none of them are shorted together or to ground.
3. Make sure all wires are connected to the proper input.
Gauge does not dim:
1. Check the connection to the purple wire. Make sure there is +12 volts when the headlight switch is on.
2. Test the dimmer wire by hooking up to the + terminal on the battery after disconnecting purple wire. When connected the gauge should dim. When not connected the gauge should, within a few seconds, be bright again.

Troubleshooting Related to Large 3 3/8' Ultragauges:
When I push the button nothing happens:
1. Is the gauge on and in normal operating mode?
2. Call 724-258-8440 for technical assistance.
Individual 3 3/8' gauge troubleshooting:
No tachometer reading or reading is erratic:
1. Check signal wire connection: White wire for tachometer only. Brown wire for combo gauge.
2. Connect to a good tachometer source.
Tachometer reads Hi or Low:
1. Adjust the engine cylinder to match your car. See 'Adjust engine cylinders' in the 3 3/8' Ultragage instructions.
2. After adjusting engine cylinder, was the dimmer activated? (+12 volts placed onto the purple wire.
Note: The dimmer must be activated once the proper engine cylinder is displayed on the screen. Upon activation of the dimmer, the gauge will store the engine cylinder information to memory and begin normal operation.
3. Try all cylinders. With newer vehicles, multiple coil packs are used for the ignition system. This could make the tachometer have to function with a different cylinder setup than what you vehicle has.
4. Call 724-258-8440 for technical assistance.
Tachometer tens digit is unreadable:
This is not uncommon for most vehicles. The tens digit is mainly used to tell if your vehicle is a high or low hundred reading. To better stabilize the reading, the following can be attempted:
1. Replace spark plug wires.
2. Replace spark plugs
3. Check coil and timing of vehicle.
4. Route tachometer signal wire differently, keeping away from other noise imposing wires.
Shift indicator light does not light:
1. Check the set point. See 'Adjust shift indicator' in the 3 3/8' Ultragage instructions.
2. Check to see if the tachometer reading is exceeding the shift indicator set point? The shift indicator only lights when the tachometer reading is greater than the shift indicator set point.
Note: When in 'adjust shift indicator' routine the number displayed on the screen is times one hundred and a zero turns off the shift indicator.
I adjust the shift indicator, but when I turn the gauge off and back on the shift indicator lights at a different set point:
1. View the current shift indicator setting. See 'Adjust shift indicator' in the 3 3/8' Ultragage instructions to get into this section. Is this where the setting is supposed to be?
2. After setting the shift indicator make sure that you activate the dimmer (+12 volt placed on to the purple wire). Once the dimmer is activated, the gauge will store the shift indicator information and begin normal operation. If the gauge does not begin normal operation and is not dimmed then there is a problem with the connection of the dimmer wire. See “Gauge does not dim' in the 'trouble shooting related to all gauges'.
