Warning: Before doing any work on any kind of vehicle, disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. Failure to do so may result in burns, electrical shock, or other personal injuries and damage to vehicle.
Recommended installation technique:
Gauge, sender and switch wire connections:
Red wire: Ignition wire, hookup to a switched +12 volt ignition source. Example: Accessory fuse in fuse box.
Black wire: Ground wire, mate all black wires from the gauge, sender, switch, and hookup to a good ground. Example:
Purple wire: Dimmer wire, hookup to a switched light source. Example: Any switched light bulb>
White wire: Signal wire, mate the white wire from the gauge to the white wire from the sender.
Note: All wire should be routed away from the ignition system, spark plug wires or any type of electrical noise imposing wires. Any wire brought through the firewall should be secured through a rubber grommet.
Warning Indicators
Below is listed the operating range and the four warning indicators. The gauge will flash as a warning that the readings are getting close to being out of the normal range. The gauge will scroll ?hi? or ?lo? when readings are completely out of normal operating range
Transmission Temperature:
Range: 0 ? 300 F
Low Scroll: 70 F
Low Flash: None
Hi Flash: 180F ? 260F
Hi Scroll: 260F
Each gauge can be looked up in the chart above to ascertain which warning indicator is adjustable. The warning which is adjustable is marked with an asterisk. To adjust your warning indicator proceed with the following steps:
1: Turn off the gauge.
2. If the dimmer wire is connected to a switched light source, turn on your lights. Otherwise place a +12v to the purple wire.
3. Turn on the gauge. At this point the gauge should be on and displaying a flashing number. If the display is not flashing then repeat steps 1 ? 3, other wise go onto step 4.
4. 4. The gauge is now in adjustment mode. Turn the screw located through the hole in the back of the gauge until the number on the display is what you would like your warning indicator to be set at.
5. Wait 30 seconds to make sure the desired number stays displayed. If the number changes repeat step 4. If number holds then turn the gauge off.
6. Turn off your lights or remove +12v from the purple wire.
7. The warning indicator is now set and can be checked anytime repeating steps 1 ? 3. To re-adjust your warning indicator repeat steps 1 ? 7.
Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting related to all gauges:
Gauge does not light:
1: Check to make sure of a good ground
2. Check the fuse if used.
3. Make sure +12v is supplied to the red wire.
4. Test gauge by hooking directly across battery. Red wire connects to the + terminal and black wire connects to the ? terminal. The gauge will light up and display, scroll, or flash something.
Fuse always blows:
1. Check the amperage rating of fuse. It should be at least 1 amp.
2. Check all external wires to gauge. Make sure none of them are shorted together.
3. Make sure all wires are connected to proper input.
Gauge does not dim:
1. Check the connection to the purple wire.
2. Test the dimmer wire by hooking up to the + terminal on the battery. When connected the gauge should dim. When not connected the gauge should, within a few seconds, be bright again.
Troubleshooting related to small 2 1/16? Ultra gauges:
When the button is pushed the gauge does not show the lo and hi memory recall functions:
1. Check the blue wire connection from the gauge to the switch. With the switch not pushed, there should be about +5 volts.
2. Check the black wire connections from the switch. It should be ground.
3. Test the memory function by touching the blue wire to the black ground wire on the gauge. Once grounded the gauge should show the hi and lo memory recall readings.
Gauge will not go into adjustment mode:
1. Make sure there is +12v to the dimmer wire before the gauge is turned on.
Gauge always goes into adjustment mode:
1. Make sure dimmer wire is off or no voltage is applied to the purple wire before the gauge is turned on.
I?m in adjustment mode, but when I turn the pot the gauge does not change:
1. Call number at bottom of page for technical assistance.
Individual 2 1/16? Untragauge troubleshooting:
A. Water, oil, transmission temperature gauges using Cyberdyne sender part number SENSS6:
Gauge scrolls lo:
Note: This means that there is an open circuit between the white wire on the gauge to the ground connection at the base of the sender. Do not use any type of Teflon tape or sealer on the threads of the sender. The sender gets ground from the engine block or transmission. Any isolation between the sender?s threads and the engine block will interfere with proper grounding.
1. Check the white wire connection between the gauge and the sender. Make sure of a good connection
2. Make sure the sender base is at ground. Run a wire from the black wire on the gauge to the base of the sender.
3. Make sure sender tip is in contact with constant fluid flow.
4. Disconnect the white wire between the sender and the gauge.
A: measures the resistance of the sender from white wire to sender base. It should be between 25 and 5K ohms.
B: Ground the white wire on the gauge. The gauge, if working properly, should count up until it scrolls hi.
Note: If both 4A and 4B check out properly then there is a ground or wire connection problem. Other wise call the number at the bottom of the last page for technical assistance.
Gauge always scrolls hi:
1. Check signal wire to make sure it is not shorted or grounded.
2. Disconnect the white wire on the gauge, if working properly should count down until it scrolls lo.
Gauge reads higher of lower than it should be:
1. Change the gauge ground connection from where it is now to the ground strap connection on your motor from the battery.

Memory Recall
1. Make sure the switch is wired up properly as per the gauge, sender and switch wire connections on page 1.
2. Press the switch. The gauge will display lo, then display the lowest reading, then the gauge will display hi, and then display the highest reading. All readings are from when the gauge was turned on.
