2 1/16? Gauge Instructions
Warning: Before doing any work on any kind of vehicle, disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. Failure to do so may result in burns, electrical shock, or other personal injuries and damage to vehicle.
Recommended installation technique:
Air Fuel Installation
1. Red wire: Connect to a 12 volt + source.
2. Black wire: Connect to a good ground source.
3. Orange wire: Connect to the wire from the Oxygen sensor that runs to the factory computer.
Note: All wires routed through the firewall should be run through a grommet.
Tip: Identifying the signal wire on 3 and 4 wire Oxygen sensors. The wire colors vary, but two wires are normally the same color. Most often two black or two white wires.. These are for the sensor heater. On 3 wire sensors the 3rd odd color wire is the signal wire. On 4 wire sensors the 3rd and 4th odd color wires are the signal and signal ground wires. Try one, if proper gauge operation is not observed try the other wire. Improper hook-up will not damage the gauge, sensor, or computer.
A/F Gauge Operation
With the key on but the engine not started, the gauge should not have any bar graphs lit or on. The air/fuel, rich and lean symbols should be on.
Start the engine. Normal operation of the gauge will not occur until the sensor and engine are at proper temperature. The gauge will have either no bars on or read lean before the sensor reaches temperature. Anywhere from 1 to 4 minutes. When the sensor reaches temperature but the engine is still below running temperature the gauge will tend to read rich.
When engine is at running temperature and is at cruse or idle the gauge will toggle between rich and lean. This is normal for newer cars with the computer controlled fuel systems.
With throttle in an open position the gauge should go towards rich.
